In response to Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election, Aftab Khan Sherpao, leader of the Qaumi Watan Party, shared his views on the potential impacts this political shift could have on Pakistan and the broader region. “Trump’s victory, coupled with the Republican Party’s strong lead in the Senate and the House, marks a new era in global dynamics,” Sherpao remarked. “For Pakistan, this is a crucial moment to recalibrate its relationship with the United States while maintaining a balanced approach with other key partners, such as China and Russia.”

Sherpao emphasized the importance of adopting a well-rounded policy to secure opportunities that would benefit Pakistan economically and strategically. “Historically, our ties with the United States have had ups and downs, largely shaped by security and regional politics. However, this administration provides a unique opening for us to look beyond traditional security issues and focus on economic cooperation. Building a strong foundation for trade, investment, and development with the U.S. can significantly support Pakistan’s socio-economic goals,” he said.

He added that Pakistan must prioritize a comprehensive foreign policy, highlighting that “a strategic approach that aligns our interests with those of the U.S. can pave the way for greater trust and collaboration. At the same time, maintaining and balancing our ties with China, Russia, and other powers will strengthen Pakistan’s global standing.”

Sherpao urged the government to seize this pivotal moment and work toward redefining Pakistan’s role in the global arena, noting that “effective diplomacy is essential to building Pakistan’s stature and unlocking opportunities for development that benefit the nation and the region as a whole.
